Week 31 – Childcare Choices

On the advice of many, we began researching potential childcare providers for Newbie. On Monday, we interviewed two individuals and toured a daycare facility. Although we liked everyone we met, one seemed to fit us more than the other two. After doing some more research (check references, complaint file, etc.) we actually hired a provider to start mid October. I can’t believe we have to choose childcare while I’m still pregnant!

Over the weekend Dave put the crib together. One of my fears is that Jack the Cat will climb into the crib with the baby. Dave and I left the room and when we came back, Jack was fast asleep inside the crib (hope the baby likes it as much as Jack). Guess we’ll need to get that crib net after all….

Week 30 – Glucose Test Results

After enduring a 3-hour glucose test (and having to fast for 12 hours), I am happy to report my test came back normal. No gestational diabetes! Even though I’ve dodged the diabetes bullet, it doesn’t mean I can revert back to the cookie monster.

Another shopping trip: We bought a crib, a mattress for the crib and the remainder of the bedding.

Finally, we painted the baby’s room this weekend. We chose a green and yellow, and Dave painted a red sun on one of the walls. It looks really cool.

Dave and I both agree that going back to work on Monday is going to be more relaxing compared to the work we did over the weekend…

Week 29 – High Glucose

Uh Oh…my doctor informed me that my glucose test came back too high. Now I need to return for a three-hour test that will determine to what extent (if any) I have gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes is common in my family so it’s not a surprise, but I wish it could have been avoided. Bummer….

Once I got the results…I cut out almost all sweets. I think I had sugar withdrawals for a few days but I’m feeling good now.

Week 28 Pt II – Baby Shower

Towards the end of our vacation week, we arrived in Southern California where Dave’s family threw us a baby shower. Dave and I are so appreciative of the generosity of our friends and family. It was incredible. Besides clothes, boppies and blankets, everyone gave us a copy of their favorite children's book for us to start a small children's library. Also, I have pictures of me and my belly that I'll post within a few days.

Dave and I agree that our kid already has a better wardrobe than us.

Week 28 Pt I – Vacation

Dave and I went on our last vacation as a couple with no kids. We drove down the coast on Highway 1 and stayed in Monterey, San Luis Obispo and wound up in LA. The weather was perfect and the traffic was light. Some highlights….

-Steinbeck Museum in Salinas
-Monterey Aquarium (we saw the great white shark before it was released)
-Monterey: The Prenatal Massage (using specialty pillows that allowed me to lay on my stomach for the first time in over four months)!
-The Getty Museum of Art in LA

The only downside is that the week went by way to fast!
