Week 23 – Weight Gain

This week I went to my monthly doc appointment. The baby is healthy and I’m healthy. Everything is good...except I’ve gained 8lbs in the past month. This is 3-4 lbs more than is recommended (recommendation is 1 lb per week). Yikes! I think its all the Jamba Juice I’ve been drinking. New rule: Replace Jamba Juice with Prenatal Yoga.

Good news – the genetic testing came back negative (negative is good). This doesn’t mean it’s a guarantee that the baby will be healthy, but it’s a good sign.

I feel Newbie move several times throughout the day. I’m told that from now that the kicks will get stronger and I’ll start to see my stomach move (like Alien).

Week 22 – The Baby Registry

Ugh, I got a cold Wed night and it lasted for the remainder of the week. Fortunately, my getting sick doesn’t affect the baby (with the exception of fevers). Now the question is: what meds are okay? I’ve read that extra doses of vitamin C, echinacea and other herbal remedies are discouraged. So I’ve been eating raw garlic and drinking hot tea and fruit juice. I shouldn't complain though, its been over a year since I've been sick. It was a nice run...

On a happier note, this weekend we created a baby registry at Babies R Us. What an overwhelming experience! We registered for about 60 items, and could have added tons more if we were following the New Parents Checklist verbatim. After a while, I began to enjoy the experience (even as I wrestled with car seats and strollers). Also, Dave and I purchased new furniture, a dresser for me and a bar that we are converting to a diaper changing station.

Week 21 – Movement

This week was pretty uneventful until Sat night, when Dave felt the baby for the first time. To do this, I have to lie down on my back and wait for movement. Lucky for us, Newbie was feeling active (maybe he/she likes veggie pizza) and did a series of little kicks. It was really cool.

Week 20 – Ultrasound

This week I got my ultrasound. Wow! It was amazing watching this baby swimming around in my tummy. We looked at every part of the baby (except the genital area). Above are some of the best pictures taken at the ultrasound. I wish I could have another ultrasound sometime in the future. However, I will not get another ultrasound unless there are complications (which I hope there are none).

I’m feeling Newbie on a daily basis now, mainly flutters and (what I’m guessing) hiccups, as the baby practices breathing. It is comforting to feel the baby.
